As I promised, today I'll tell you about my television. Tonights ago it was working fine. I turned if off and went to bed. Well yesterday during my lunch break I turned it on, but I got no picture and no sound. So I tried pushing buttons on the remote control, the television equipment of lifting the hood and taking a look even though you don't know what you are looking for. So I got out the manual because no button I pushed helped the situation. The manual said if the red light on the front was blinking for more than a few seconds I should unplug the television and plug it back in to reset it. So I did that and nothing happened. The next sentence said if this does not work I should contact my local Sony service center.
Well I know enough about technology to know that when something goes it is typically cheaper to get a new one. But I called the service center today and I'm going to take it in tomorrow to have it looked at. But if it costs more to repair it than to buy a new one then I'm faced with a dilemma. Do I buy a new tv or do I become one of those people who doesn't watch television? I would realy like to be one of those people. I have great admiration for them. But I really like television. I can't wait for the new tv season to start. I'll probably buy a new tv, but feel guilty about it afterwards.
So that is the story about my television. Not really all that interesting. But here is a good topic, give me the best thing you can think of that I can do to fill my time while my tv is being repaired or while I'm without one. And don't just say read, I know that would be good and healthy, yada, yada, yada.
Alright, I'm off to bed to read. Because what else am I going to do, my tv is broken.
Peace out.

Well, if you really need something to keep you occupied, you're welcome to plan the 200th anniversary worship service for my congregation. Or write the sermon for the wedding I have this Saturday. I'd really like to send you to the old ladies' group that meets at church this afternoon (they'd LOVE you!), but I suspect the travel would require more time than we are talking about. Too bad.
So I guess you're stuck with reading. Or going to the movies a lot.
P.S. Do you truly need to know who got kicked off Top Chef last night? I know Mike watched it last night, so I could ask him.
The Brian I know, would buy a new TV. Not because he HAS to, but because he WANTS to. Besides, you can still admire the people who don't watch TV. But you'll miss the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy.
Oops, pressed return too soon.
You'll miss the premiere if you don't have the telly, is what I meant to say. Be guilt free, my friend.
I agree with herbalicious -- I can't imagine you without a tv. Besides, I don't have a TV and I rely on people like you to tell me what's going on with whom. But, just so you know how the 1/1,000,000 of us live: We spend a LOT of time online (frequently reading network summaries of tv shows we miss or reading blogs that summarize what happened on cash cab), we use our DVD player a lot (watching whole seasons of tv shows we were unable to watch last year or the year before) and we read. Frequently I go to bed earlier than I used to just because I don't have the tv to distract me so I get a really good night's sleep. I also listen to music. Who knew?
