More randomness!!

Alright, so a few more random thoughts or sightings.

First, we are having a bit of beautiful weather here. Warm enough to go to the beach today. So that is what I did. And while I was there I saw an old naked man walking like a crab. I don't have an explanation for this. I can't tell you anymore than what I just told you. Just that.

But I also saw a pair of dolphins playing very close to the shore. And by playing, I mean swimming. Why is it that we, and by we I mean me, assume that every dolphin I see is playing? Those dolphins might have simply been going work at their little dolphin jobs. It might not have been playful at all, but that is my assumption. And I'm going to continue to believe that all of what a dolphin does is play because I want to believe that it is possible to be about all work and all of living in a playful way.

Second random thought, is that I have been watching the Democratic National Convention this week. I am a democrat and I'm somewhat proud of that fact. Only somewhat because like most people of my generation I am somewhat disillusioned with the whole political landscape--democrat and republican. But I will vote for Barrack Obama and will tell those that I know to do the same. All that being said, I think most of the speeches at the convention have been fairly uninspiring. In my opinion the only speeches that have been at all effective were Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton. I thought Joe Biden was good. But here is the thing I don't think it is just poor orators, instead I think it is some pretty poor speech writing. There are ways to write and speak that are persuasive and inspiring. We can all think of speeches that have left us feeling inspired and convinced. We can come up with phrases that have stuck with us over the course of history, i.e, think not of what your country can do for you but for what you can do for your country. I'm not sure we'll come away from this convention with anything like that. Although, I'm hopeful that Barrack Obama might tomorrow night.

But I will say again that I loved Hillary Clinton last night and Bill Clinton could sell a (insert appropriate folksy phrase but potentially politically incorrect here to suggest Bill Clinton's ability to convince one to do anything.)

Alright that is is. Naked crab walking man and unsolicited political speech writing critique. Enjoy!

Peace out!

I think there's a generally flat character to much of what gets bought and sold as political discourse in our nation in general--and that's bound to be reflected in political speech writing. Politics has become entertainment, and the state of our Dancing with the Desperate Talented Idol Bachelor entertainment is fairly insipid. Maybe we should try to convince speech writers to insert vignettes about naked crab walking old men into their speeches.

if naked crab man were on "my name is earl," earl could walk up and say "hey, naked crab man!" and naked crab man could say "hey, earl!"

a little more randomness for your day...
