Alright, if you didn't watch the Olympics opening ceremony last you night you missed a huge spectacle. It was fantastic. Now let's be clear it probably wasn't, in my opinion, as fantastic as Dolly Parton but it was awesome. (I'm guessing that everyone in the world would disagree with me about the Dolly Parton thing--well maybe a few other queens would agree with me.) I really was amazed at all that they did. Granted when you spend 300 million dollars it better be awesome.
But the thing that got me was the little boy who walked by the tall chinese basketball player who was the flag bearer for the Chinese team. This little boy was a survivor of the earthquake that happened in China recently. As you may remember lots of children were killed in that earthquake. It was the middle of the day and many of them were at school. Well this boy was at school but was able to escape. He then went back in and helped two of his friends get out of the wreckage. When asked why he did that, he said "it was my job. I'm a hall monitor." That is one of the most beautiful stories. It is this great reminder of human potential to do good. We aren't just perpetrators of act of violence. I hope for the day when we all have the responsibility of this little hall monitor.
Peace out!
