Alright as I promised I am posting a video blog where I talk about the Harry Potter book. My niece and I have a very short 10 minute conversation. Where I forgot to talk about some things, but that is okay. I still think I laid out the basic questions I have and my view of the book. If you have not read the book you should wait to watch the video.
So I'm posting right here, (right below this.) DO NOT WATCH IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK
Now for one more thing. Today we stumbled across the National Kite Boarding Championship. Until today I did not know kite boarding even existed. Basically it is an individual on a surfboard holding a giant kite and gliding around the water. They were racing. And it all seemed very ambiguous. Don't really know where the starting line was or the finish line for that matter. And I'm guessing the announcer didn't really know much information either. At the conclusion of one of the races he said "apparently we have a winner." Apparently? How do you apparently have a winner? Someone had to cross the finish line first, right? They changed the 3rd place winner at least 2 times. It was pretty funny and I came away knowing vitually nothing about the sport. But I know it exists now.
Alright enjoy the video blog. Let me know if you have answers to the questions and what you thought.

My favorite part was definitely the part where Mrs. Weasley is killing Bellatrix and when she dies, I was surprised that Voldmort was "moved" -- as if he has emotions. That was out of character, I thought. I also liked the end where Harry never has to use the killing curse to defeat Voldemort -- when he told that it was Draco's wand and Draco was the one who was supposed to kill Dumbledore and thus the wand belonged to whoever had Draco's wand. WAY cool!
I'm still working on the horcrux thing and why he didn't die and also the "Union Station" thing (you're too funny -- it's King's Crossing). Wish she had told more about the baby, but I too think it was Voldemort's soul, but then shouldn't it be dead UNLESS the soul DIDN'T die but the elder wand only RELEASED the soul from Harry . . . in which case, does it still exist?
OK, Brian, I "know" a little more, I think. OK, so, Voldemort and Potter are basically one and the same because they are made up of the same blood (& it's "protective blood from Lily) and share a soul so when Voldemort went to strike Harry down, it would have killed them both or saved them both. Don't know WHY it saved them both, but it did, and in so doing I'm thinking it just plain 'ole "rattled" that jagged soul out. I mean, if it were unstable enough to detach randomly when Harry was a baby, I'm thinking it randomly was just as unstable to unattach from Harry as well. It didn't die there, it just was no longer attached to anything and thus, we see it crying and dying at King's Cross. OK, so Harry's free. How he then proceeded to kill Voldemort in the end, I'm not sure except I think it was the elder wand that could kill Volde and since Harry was the rightful owner, it happened. I just wonder how Harry didn't die except now they JUST shared "protective" blood and not soul. I'm wondering if Snape's death had something to do with ending Lily's protective spell ??? Can't really answer that yet. Would love to hear your reaction to this.
I really didn't like the part at King's Crossing. Not only did it raise lots of unanswered questions (like how did Voldemort's soul get there? how come Harry didn't die?), but it was just too strange and didn't fit with the rest of the Harry Potter world. I think the purpose was to explain the connection between Voldemort and Harry, which was achieved by having Dumbledore appear to Harry "in his head" as he floats between life and death, but it just felt like a cheesy literary device. The rest of the book is so brilliantly written, I'm sure this part could have been done better as well.
To answer Katie's question, Voldemort is killed at the end by his own killing curse which is deflected by Harry's expelliarmo curse and boomerangs back onto Voldemort. Seems awfully simple, but by that time maybe he was just too weak to survive even that, as all his hurcruxes had been destroyed and his soul was completely unstable.
I loved how so much was brought in from the previous books and used in this book. It was a wonderful way to end the series. I think my favorite part was when Harry, Ron and Hermione infiltrated the Ministry of Magic by disguising themselves in other bodies. It was both suspenseful and hilarious, a good mix of comedy and drama.
